All CNC control software must be able to adapt to whatever ratio is in effect,
which will vary due to screw lead, steps/rev, gearing, left hand or right hand
threads etc. In the software configuration you just enter the steps per inch
for each axis.

Many homebrew machines may end up with a metric pitch screw on one axis, and
inch pitch on another, due to what can be picked up on eBay at the time ;)
The software isn't fussy, it just needs to be told how much to turn the motor
for a given movement.
