Hi,
I am also in the UK and I've just bought and read a book on how one guy
built his CNC router. It was worth the money. The book is by Geoff Williams
and is called "CNC Robotics" ISBN: 0-07-141828-8. It was only £12 from
Amazon and has nothing to do with robotics.
If I wanted to do what you do I would use this book as a reference and scale
his machine down to table-top size, maybe 12" x 18" or less. Use Gecko
stepper drivers or other such ready made drivers, Turbo CNC and type 23 (50
oz. in.) stepper motors with Acme screws. Linear rails would be ground round
bar with sliders from www.ebay.co.uk
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7511215042&rd=1&sspagen
ame=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
These are advertised nearly every week at this price.
I have bought the plans from www.crankorgan.com via a friend in the States,
they will do what you want but use aluminium sections only available there.
It would be possible to redesign the machine but the above book would be a
better start with what is available here. The paperwork that comes with the
plan is worth reading but is largely covered by the book anyway.
I hope this has been some help.
Regards,
Terry
