That's a real problem all right. I'm not sure how others are dealing with
this issue, and will be reading other replies with some interest, but from
what I've read so far it appears to me that it's not a good idea to make any
assumptions about what a printer port is going to be doing during powerup,
self-test, and boot sequences. In whatever I end up building I'm going to
have something in there to deal with this, only I haven't built it yet...
