One solution is to use Mach2 and the charge pump. The Sound Logic boards
that Jim Cullins manufactures uses the charge pump from Mach2 to disable the
step and direction signals going to the Gecko drives during power up. We
call it an anti chatter feature. If the user wires the EPO switch to our
board and then hits the big red button (EPO switch) during machine
operation, the board will inform Mach2 and at the same time it drop the 5
volts to the Gecko drive. Once Mach2 sees the EPO signal it will drop the
charge pump and inhibit the step and direction lines.
