Bolting to a surface plate is really quite easy , we have been making
precision fixtures for Hughes Aircraft for years this way .
Mark the approximate locations of where you want the tapped holes ,
use a diamond core drill and water just like you would drill concrete .
Hole should be over an inch deep . cover a 1/2" steel or aluminum rod
with epoxy ( first put some nasty scratches gouges & grooves on the
outside ) slip them in the holes .
Next day you can mount the granite surface plate on a mill and drill and
tap your holes to very precise locations .( they will never come out )
After your machine is finished you can drill and tap fixture holes the
same way .
