Jarrett,

The sensing distance is from the face to the object being sensed.

I did some work with Multicam and talked with their engineers about
proximity sensors. 2 mm is the best as it is not as likely to sense chips or
other foreign objects. I use 12 mm barrel type with a quick disconnect
cable. You do want a quick disconnect as it makes is it easy to screw in the
sensor.
