That is definitely true. For some reason when you approach most proximity
sensors "head on" the point at which they "trip" isn't always exactly the same.
When you approach them at a right angle, the flag or magnet (depending on
the type of sensor) is always the same distance from the face of the sensor
and the sensor tends to activate at the same point.
