Pin 1 is the supply and is the brown wire
Pin 4 is the collector and is the brown wire.
Pin 3 goes to ground and is the blue wire
I doubt pin 2 is connected.
L is the load.
So you would normally connect the blue wire to gnd, the brown wire to
12-24VDC, the brown wire to your input and a resistor between your input and
whatever it's supply voltage (5V?) is.

Replying to a old message. Things are progressing,
I've got some AM1-AN-2Hprox sensor's [their NPN].
I'm working through the connection of them and
noticed on the wire diagram here
http://web6. <http://web6.automationdirect.com/static/specs/prox12mmam.pdf>
automationdirect.com/static/specs/prox12mmam.pdf
pg2 diagram 1.
I don't quite follow what BN/1, BK/4=NO, BK/2 &
BU/3 are.. if I look over to the right side, there
is a connector showing numbered pin's 1 thru 4 [ I
assume the / # on the diagram links to these pin
#'s] I also notice on this little connector pic
that pin #1 is supply (+) so I can put my 12V in
here, then I take pin 3 back to Ground [common at
the enclosure?] I also notice that Pin 4 has [OUT
NO] beside it, while pin 2 has [OUT NC] beside it,
does this mean that if I run my wire from pin 2
back to my input terminal on the B/O or G100 [
future] this will be my normally closed input [
always has power coming through it until the
sensor is tripped].
Back to Diagram 1, [ left side of the page] what
is the little "L" mean between BN/1 & BK/4 ? I
recognise the LED's and Diode's on the diagram..
I'm just not sure what the 'L' means..
Sorry for bringing this up again.. and for the
amateur questions.. this stuff is fairly Greek to
me.. :-/
