The fused sand technique looks pretty doable. A CO2 laser (much
cheaper than an eximer or frequency tripled or quadrupled YAG) is used
to fused polymer coated sand together into a mold, when then can be
used in castings. I saw an article about this, but have not seen any
examples yet.
