Hi,
I just reported to the E-Leadscrew group that I'm not any further than 3
weeks ago because of work-work time constraints. However, I am hoping to do
some testing on the full blown ELS this weekend.
I see no reason why the ELS module couldn't drive a 3 amp 50V stepper motor
connected to a leadscrew that moves a cutting stop with only minor source
code changes. The stepper could turn what would be considered the Z axis of
the Lathe but instead this would be a stop behind the shear mounted on a
leadscrew. The numeric keypad could be used to enter in the exact cut size.
Full source code for a PIC 18F series based device is available on the
E-Leadscrew site.
The little module Paul Kelly Developed would also work really well for this,
where his distance knob just moves the stop while the LCD (serving as a DRO)
shows the position of the stop. Photo's of his module are also on the
E-Leadscrew site.
Since the threaded rod holding the stop provides the positioning a small
size 23 motor would probably be all that's needed.
With a bit of extra software, a parameter like bend radius and metal
thickness could also be factored in and then the backstop would actually
move to the correct spot so that the folds happened properly with correct
alignment of pre-punched holes.
