How about a USB flash drive?
Here is 256MB of non-volatile RAM that looks exactly like a disk to the
computer when it is plugged into a USB port. Pretty indestructible - the
only concern is removing it while you are writing data to it but that
would kill a floppy disk too.
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1113)-SDCZ4-256-SanDisk_Cruzer_Micr
oUSB_Flash_Drive256MB.aspx
the URL will wrap so use cut and paste or else go here:
http://tinyurl.com/d8jen
NewEgg has this same unit for $14.55 with $4.81 shipping.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820155415
or http://tinyurl.com/rgee3
If you are feeling spendy, the same store has the 1GB unit for $40 and a
4GB unit for $140.
The nice thing with these is that you can keep frequently used utilities
on them. Not all programs need to be "installed" or run from C:\Program
Files\xxx
