Joe, I'm terribly bias.. but I say buy Solidworks from the get-go. If you take the time to properly learn another Cad program, and then convert to Solidworks later, it will just lead to more wasted time while learning Solidworks [we all know learning a new program takes time.. I'm not saying Solidworks is a time waster :-) ]. I currently drive Solidworks in my Day job and have done some Aerospace orientated stuff with it.. there's a reason that most companies in this line of work use SW [ if not its usually something of an even higher level, Catia or the like]. My vote is to spend the $$ now and get what you need the first time around..
Just for kicks, here's one item I've done w/ SW. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=123104&postcount=8

I have only posted here once or twice, but here goes.

I have just started a small company that is desgning some Aerospace
stuff. my partner uses CADKEY which he likes for a bunch of reasons,
but we both know that we will have to bite the bullet to get a 3-D
program in the not too distant future, so, since i am not an
engineer, or CAD guy, i was just curious about opinions on software
choices.

Price is a consideration. if things go well for us, then purhcasing
something like SolidWorks would be in line with what we want (2
seats, perhaps 3), but right now, the 4000 per seat price is a
little....pricey.

so, i have heard about ProE and SolidEdge, but would like to hear
from this group what they recommend and why (and some idea of cost).
i really want to have something for me that won't bury me in
learning but i guess that is just part of the price of admission to
3D world.

oh, as you may expect, a lot of current vendors and customers that
we deal with use Solidworks.

thanks in advance for your help.

Joe
