Dear Mr. Joe,
It is my pleasure to address you. First of all you have to review and understand what is your requirement? Say:
1- Is your work involved product designing/product redesigning/ product manufacturing?
2- Is your product is simpler one or complex engineering product?
3- Is your product requires continuous innovation?
4- How many assembly parts in your products
5- Is it any requirement of mould designing too?
For the selection of software, these parameters are important and also the availability of relevant human resource of particular software.
PRO_E:
No doubt, Pro-e is the king. The problem is its price, upgradation price and bit difficult to learn.
SolidWorks:
Excellent mid level mechanical design software, easily to learn, excellent customer support. Good software for part design, assembly design, photo realistic rendering. Most important thing which makes, SolidWorks growing giant is its easy interface. One can expert in SolidWorks in 6 month where as for Pro-e it require 2 years.
Solid Edge:
Solid edge is similar to SolidWorks. Good for relevant small assembly design. If you want to purchase either SolidWorks or Solid edge then i recommend, SolidWorks.
Alibre:
It is new software with lesser price. About $2000 max. (Please verify it)
You can go though it at www.alibre.com.
If you explain about your work requirement then i able to guide you correctly. I recommend SolidWorks.
If you require any other clarification and help then dont hesitate to contact me.

Joe,
If you can get Solidworks for $4,000.00 per seat that ain't bad. The
last quote I received from them was for Solidworks Office 2007 was
right at $8,000.00.
