ken-

thanks. that did the trick. but prior to doing that the display was
set aside an hour or so and now the lcd have backlighting, but i can't see
the actual digits (very faint). upon disconnecting the power (not using
power switch - unplugging the cord), i can see the numbers pop-up briefly
just before the entire display loses power.

is there some built up charge somewhere i need to address?
