Actually looking at the picture it looks like the differential version
is purely a RJ45 to screw terminal adapter. In that case you may as well
wire the cable straight into the encoder. The single ended version does
appear to have some circuitry on it. Have a look at this pic
<http://www.rutex.com/pic/2010.jpg>. The RJ45 is next to the screw terminal.

As you are using a DeskCNC board I wouldn't recommend using the R2000
series drives. To set the drives up you will have to make a parallel
port adapter so you can run their tuning software. Note if you do buy a
R990h drive, make sure you also order the screw terminal plug if you
aren't using their motherboard.
