HI,
The name is Keith, and I live in Hull, in the UK.
I am a mature student in my 3rd year studying a Masters Degree in
Mech and Medical Engineering at Hull University ( UK ), and luckily I
am moving to a house with a large workshop area, which once setup i
will post some pictures of. My interests are mainly in workshop
tooling, stationary engines, and 3.5" and 5" loco's, but i have been
out of the hobby for the past 5 years or so, so i am looking forward
to swarf flying as soon as i move house :)
I've just bought a Smart and Brown 1024 ( it is being delivered in a
few weeks after i return from holiday )......luckily it is fully
tooled including a taper turning attachment and the collet drawbar,
gearbox, dual dials, steadies, micro stops, 3 jaw, 4 jaw, and an
almost complete set of changewheels, as well as a full original
manual. Also in the deal were a Seba 14" shaper, and an Adcock and
Shipley 1ESG, and a early 20th Century full height pedestal drill
which needs some restoration. I must admit i am a bit of a "tool
tart" and like machines to be clean and painted ( without chips ), as
well as functioning optimally :)
The mill and lathe will run from a 3hp single to 3 phase converter,
whilst the drill and shaper are 240v single phase.
One of the 1st projects i plan is to make a barstock 4 stroke aero
engine which i have had the plans for sometime ( i forget the name
but approx 10cc ), but before that i intend to add DRO and CNC
facilities to both the mill and lathe.
I have some NEMA 34 steppers as well as a 4 axis microstepping CNC
board built from the Uwe Wolf kits, and some 1000cpr shaft encoders -
So i expect to be busy, although i havent full decided whether to go
for the Shumatech DRO system. Any thoughts ?
Anyways, Happy cutting :) and thanks in advance for any answers or
replies
