If you have a good lathe and time, you can make a taper-lock just as
good as any commercial one, particularly if you have the original to
measure from. I made a set of serpentine belt pullies out of 7075
aluminum, and I used commercial hubs and machined the mating section
right into the pulley. On another job, I used commercial timing belt
pullies with 303 stainless hubs I made.
