Doubt that 98 drivers would work for XP
98 was the last Windows to allow talking to the port hardware. 2000 was the
first Windows to 'virtualize' the ports and would not let you write directly
to them. The driver has to make a call to a Windows virtual port and not the
hardware. There are some good reasons for this (multiple applications trying
to print is a perfect example -- the virtual port queues the print jobs,
each app writing to hardware would be a clusterfsck)
See if you can find a 2K driver -- that should work.
