Good day,
Thanks for the helpful answers both here in the list and privately.
With your feedback, I e-mailed Usovo with the questions I now knew I
had to ask. Here is a summary of your feedback and Usovo's answer,
hoping it will be useful for someone else in the future.
- Retrofits are delicate animals in CNC. Before starting one, care must
be taken to find weak spots in the design (either home made or kit). For
that, a careful examination of the proposed design is required.
- Some usual sources of trouble: The couplers from motor to spindle;
the quality (and even the type) of spindles, bearings, etc which can be
fine for manual use but not for being motor-driven; insufficient torque
from the motors.
The answers to my technical questions from Usovo (quoted as received):
- the kit is ok for all MF70 up to 6 years old.
- the motors are glued to the axle adapters, and the adapters are
screwed and glued to the spindle.
- yes, it is a normal printercable 25 Pins D-Sub_m to 25 Pins D-Sub_f.
- Yes, I have many customers who work with EMC2 / Linux
A Google search on "usovo proxxon problems" doesn't turn up any
identifiable pattern, while a few other searches with usovo and proxxon
on them seem to indicate that the conversion is relatively popular.
