No, this could still be done by stepper motor and controlled by the
number of steps to move
per layer. I was just thinking if you had a strict 3-axis program and
needed those 3 for
X Y and extruder, the Z could be done with other schemes. I guess both
Mach and EMC
both handle more than 3 axes, so no need to resort to this.
