So what if it's overkill? Get a cheap PC, install Mach3, and away you go.

linux is free as to the learning curve it is as easy to setup as mach with
stepconfig (added in version2.5) and very simple I would recommend a dual
core so as to be able to isolate the cpu, also lcnc can run in ladder mode
which would be a no brainer for this application. so one could keep his 375
if he had an old pc lying around, coupled with the fact its only runnung
one stepper i would say anything 486 or better will give satisfactory
results
