[CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO]EMC in 10 minutes + 6 hours + ?

The usual frustration with anything to do with Linux.
I set up a pentium 133 with a hd with 3 partitions & W98. The
third partion (E:) was empty and started to install zipemc to that
partition. First disappointment: The zipemc.bat calls for the use
of PKZIP25.EXE to be used. Went to the PKware site - can't find that
file anywhere. Downloaded the W98 version. Used it. Since the .bat
file wouldn't work I told WPKzip to place the files in E:\Linux.
Second disappointment: Ended up with E:\Linux\Linux\ directory.
Nuked it all and started over. This time got the directory right.
Restarted pc in the dos mode, changed to \linux directory, type
'linux', enter. Third disappointment. Says 'Image file not found',
can't find vmlinuz.
Well, says I, 'guess it doesn't like not being on the C: drive.
I get out a 1 gig hard drive with RH5.2 already on it and delete
everything on it, use linux fdisk to remove the linux file structure.
Try to install W98 on the 'empty' drive. Uh uh. The dos fdisk
finds a leftover linux partition that it can't delete. Get out
the RH5.2 cd and floppy and go thru a partial install to erase
the old partition. This time I get a good W98 install.
Back to 'EMC in 10 minutes' cd. I start a new install using WPKzip
and all goes as planned. Restart pc in dos mode, change to \linux
directory, type linux and get the same gd 'Image file not found'
message! The linux.bat file is trying to load 'vmlinuz' but it is
not to be found anywhere. Used windows explorer to search the hd
to no avail.
Hunted around on the ZIPEMC cd and found a Slackware.zip and bat
file to install it. Ahh, says I, this time I got it. Of course,
this bat file wants to use PKZIP25.EXE which we dont have, but
I tell it to put the slackware files on C: and it unzips into
the \linux directory as desired. Restart in the dos mode.
Type 'linux', screen fills with lots of goodies and WOW!,
Asks for a login. Typed in 'root' and 'zipemc' for password.
Get -
darkstar:~#
Type in 'startx'
'File not found'
ARRRGH!!
Anybody got this thing running? Ideas?
