when installing ZipEMC forget everything you know about
installing Linux the normal way ,it doesn't need its own partition
the UMSDOS filesystem lives on the windows partition just
like any other windows directory
(but its probably a good idea to keep out of it while in windows)

you don't have to run the zipemc.bat file to install ZipEMC ,i.e.
if you don't have PKZIP25 to run the .bat file
you can use any 32bit version of WinZip (version 6.X or
later I think ,I used V7) from http://winzip.com/ the latest is V8
WinZip will also extract .tgz and .tar.gz files but not .bz2 yet
( I thought Everyone had WinZip !?!)

in windows select the ZipEMC.zip (or .tar.gz) to view it
when you go to extract be sure the box labeled "use folder names"
is checked (so it doesn't put everything into one directory)
and select C:\ (or E:\) as the directory to extract to
(prevents the C:\linux\linux problem)

I haven't personally tried loading it onto anything except the C: drive
but the original ZipSlack distro ran from a parallel port SCSI Zip drive
and linux.bat had to be changed to run from the C: drive
it should work from D: or E: as well
find this line in the C:\linux\linux.bat file
\linux\loadlin \linux\vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1 rw
change it to
\linux\loadlin \linux\vmlinuz root=/dev/hda3 rw
and it should work

you could also copy linux.bat to C:\ or C:\windows
to run it right from the boot prompt when you restart
and if you installed to E:\ then change that line to
E:\linux\loadlin E:\linux\vmlinuz root=/dev/hda3 rw
