Success at last!!
Thanks to a tip from Matt Shaver I finally have EMC in 10 Minutes
(+ about 8 hours) running. I kept getting an 'out of disk space'
error when unzipping zipemc.zip. It supposedly only takes 400mb
of space but I was filling a 1.2gb drive. Matt suggested I check
the drive for fat32. Turns out it was setup as fat16 and all the
small files ate up alot of space. Went back to fdisk and chose
the 'large drive' option, reformated, installed w98, then installed
zipemc.zip. All went as advertised.
