to get serial mice to work run the Slackware setup utility and use the
configure option this also lets you configure the networking and such
or type mouseconfig at the prompt and select your mouse type and port

if you ever do need to recompile the kernel it goes the same as it would on
any
other Linux box ,the kernel and realtime source is already installed

you can use linux to untar it onto a mounted windows partition if you are
running a more "conventional" dual boot system
I havent tried expanding a UMSDOS filesystem onto an ext2 partition
so I'm not sure what it would do but I dont think it would harm anything
