Up here in Canada, Princess Auto has a special on an 8" digital
caliper (reg $99, sale price $59 or so).

Interestingly, there are two removable covers: one for battery
replacement, one for digital output.

The instruction pamphlet says only:
Data Output: serial output for interface with host computer or
printer.

There are four edgecard contacts, and an adjacent strange mini-
socket which may only be for mechanical latching.

The pamplet further states the repeatability is .01 mm or .000 5"
and the maximum measuring rate is an impressive 60 inches/sec.
