Sorry Ballendo - That one slipped in unintended.

Cooee is an Australian Bush Yell. You shout it as loud as you can with a
long"coo " bit, and and finish with a rising short "EEE" on the end like a
whip crack. In the silence of the bush it can be heard for miles, and
hence has become an Australian colloquialism, so "being within cooee"
means being within several miles range.
