This talk of casting picking up small imperfections reminds me of a demo
at EASTEC. There is a company that sells an epoxy resin for the purpose
of picking up detail- for example if you need to measure an internal
thread you cast in a lump of this stuff, when it cures you unscrew it
and measure the casting.
To prove the level of detail they could pickup they had a nice crisp new
One Dollar bill from which they had pulled a casting that showed the ink
thickness- you could clearly see the entire printing of the dollar.
If Moglice picks up the same level of detail, and it ought to, then some
damn small imperfections in the screw will surely lock it together.
It is clear we should not be stingy with the release agent!
I like the idea of trying to wax the screw with something hard enough to
fill any surface imperfections, then adding the release agent. But then
you open the problem of compatability of the release and wax. Im going
to try just the Moglice, with their release agent, and be generous. The
moglice book says the release agent is .0001" thick per coat. Im going
to do at least 4 coats.
