Chris,
BIG STEPPERS! I'll leave most of your questions to Mike, but I would
like to ask what software you are using. As you probably know, you need
to "ramp up" the motors to speed. You have BIG motors and a lot of
INERTIA. You might try to simply move between points "A" and "B" (some
good distance apart), and determine if you can consistently reach them.
This might indicate whether you are loosing steps or not. There will
also be backlash, so approach each point from the same direction as this
becomes obvious. You can then run a slow speeds, then higher speeds
until you see losses. Back off a percentage of this rate (75%?), and
you have a good indication of the rate limit for your moves.
