I don't need to make any tradeoffs. Yes I got the screw to work.
If you see the design, you'd see there's no problem with stiffness or
usefulness of travel.

If someone wants to pay me to "DO IT NOW, 'cause I need it last week" I'd be
happy to drop what I'm doing and get busy on it. Since I've already got a
machine designed and under constrruction with a frame similar to what I'd
use on the router, I could make this unit (for me) as a bolt on attachment
to the other machine.

In the meantime I'll continue with the designs on the dream machines (nearly
there...doing detail drawings now).
