This is an interesting thread. I always thought helical couplings
were the end-all solution. I've been surfing around to find other
options and came up with a couple of other devices.

One is called a Huco-Oldham lateral offset coupler, as seen here:

The other device, somewhat less promising looking is called a gear
and sleeve coupling, as seen here:

Any opinions on these items?

Does anyone know how much the Huco bellows couplers run?
