As I said before, the AC Slo-syn motors can be used as steppers without
taking them apart. Just disgard the capacitor, and hook them up--somehow.
How? I would have to dig to find the documentation I have on it. I do
remember that I hooked them up as bi-polar. The ones I used were rated at
nine hundred something inch ounces, but they were limited in speed to 72 ipm
because of their mechanics. I think you could get more out of them, but I
did not try back in those days, since I used them to drive a gantry cutting
5/8 '' steel. I did not really need much speed. I bought 9 of these motors
from Herbach Rademan for 20 USD each!
