Brian: I have not used more than two different brands of steppers, and that
second one was only for ONE plotter here in my office, where the leads were
long ago all very nicely enclosed in shrink-tubing so as to look like a
"cord" coming out of the motors, so I can't tell, anymore, what colors were
used for what. But I DO recall they were no where NEAR similar to those used
by Superior Electric, maker of, oh, 90% of the steppers I have used.

This is a good topic! Some ambitiously-forensic-minded chap/gal "in here"
should do a "study" about the colors used for the "center-taps" of 6-wire
unipolar, for "4-wire", and "8-wire" steppers, and the colors used for the
"phases" (winding-ends) of unipolar, and, other than just white, black, red,
and green, do any firms use the SAME colors for "commons", etc. How many use
RED for "positive leads"???? Is BLUE or YELLOW ever used for stepper-leads,
and if not, WHY not?

Is there any "industry-standard" for the lead-colors on 8-wire motors? Does
anyone have a CLUE why two huge reputable firms with educated engineers would
choose DIFFERENT colors for winding-lead wires??? I mean, Congress surely
has no interest in this, so why does it look like that is EXACTLY where the
choices are made????
