As some of the others have said on here, it is a hit or miss situation. To
be certain that you are not going to have power problems the answer is to
purchase a commercial ROTARY phase converter from Arco or Ronk or some other
reputable manufacturer. What size is the $3500.00 converter you mentioned
and what is the name of the manufacturer?

On the other hand, if you can put up with any delays and feel the risk of
burning up the motor on the lathe is justified then it might be worthwhile to
try the home-brew unit first.
