Instead of a solid rod, why not take the time to bore one end of it out to
clear the largest end mill that you can hold. Then, when you remove the
collet using the rod, it will have some air-space to clear the mill and
actually tap at the end of the collet.

I have a MAXNC. I think it uses the same spindle arrangment as Taig.

Because the collets are small, the end-mills stick way-out, behond
the collet.
So when you drive a rod through the top of the spindle, the rod is
pounding on the end of the mill.

I got it out, with an aluminum rod and a hammer, but I chipped the
end of a $42 end-mill!!

There has got to be a better way??
