I ran my Shoptask (identical sized machine to the smithy) on some 250 in/oz
motors when I first started. It was setup with a 2:1 reduction and the
maximum rapid rate was about 20 ipm and cutting rates were under 10 ipm. It
definitely worked. I then upgraded to 550 in/oz motors and rapids went up to
75 ipm or so and cut up to 30 ipm or so. The machine was much more enjoyable
to use. I have communicated with a number of people that have used 150 in/oz
motors on the Shoptask and while it does work none of them were happy until
they put on bigger motors.
