Yes, the 3:1 reduction triples the torque, but it cuts the speed
(very roughly) to one THIRD! A larger motor and a smaller
reduction ratio should be able to deliver higher speed, given
a couple provisos. The driver and power supply need to deliver
higher current to the larger motor.
