Your right on most of it, but the XRay tube still rotates , it just
rotates faster today. Radiation exposure is actually quite high by any
medical standards of X-Rays. One CT is worth alot of Chest XRays. Modern
systems are about 1465 detectors and are made of ceramic, the computers are
typically Silicone graphics workstations doing alot of math, very quickly.
The dose is adjusted to compensate for the thickness of the body on the fly
for the best systems, hence the need for math processors doing double duty.
Now if you want a good Spindle motor and speed controller, just find
an old CT, most have a great High power servo that can turn a ring weighing
in at 2000lbs or so at 120RPM, and thats a ring 6 feet across. I have my eye
on one about to come out, never know when you need a honking big servo.
