Ok. First I have to admit that I've never played with a ballscrew
directly but not having direct experience before has never stopped
me from blurting something out before so here goes.
If the bearing diameter is only slightly less than the tube od then
you should be able to push the tube out of the nut with the bearing
journal as you slide the nut onto the screw. At some point the bearing
journal starts performing the same purpose as the tube, the journal
will keep the balls from falling out.
