Hi all,
I do font engraving on my CNC Sherline 5400 Mill. The spindle top pulley was
turned down to the same as the motor's. Now I have ~6000 RPM at the spindle.
A 280 mm V belt from a sewing machine shop allowed the use of the existing
motor mounts. All works quite well. You do have to watch the surface leveling
tho, to make it all look good.
12L14 steel can be engraved just like it was aluminum.
Keep the feed low to avoid choking the cutters and flood with lubricant or
cutting fluid. I use carbide single lip cutters from Antares. They can
be reground to any form needed.
