Hi Weyland,
I haven't tried it but how about just 'gearing' the mouse encoder up. Like I
said in my last post, if you put a big pulley on a shaft with a rubber band
drive (like the flay rubber bands used in video recorders) to the mouse
encoder shaft, you would get a lot of 'transitions' from one revolution of
the shaft. If you aim for too many and then divide the result
electronically, I would guess you will get rid of a lot of the errors due to
inaccuracies in the encoder disk - or perhaps I'm way off base? I doubt it
would be any use to our'professional' chums but it might be useful on a
hobby mill.
