WD-40 will ignite, but that is probably due to the propellant( if used
from a spray can). Probably propane. I discovered that a few years
back, trying to quiet some noisy bearings on my shop-vac.It was pretty
exciting for a few seconds!. I use WD-40 (from a spray can) for engine
starting fluid rather than ether.
It does help keep aluminum from attaching itself to my carbide cutters
when porting aluminum heads. If you keep an old candle around the shop
that works also. Just touch the candle to the hot cutter . Carey

part water. I've sprayed it on red hot steel and all it did was smoke.
