Stoddard solvent is very easy to chromatagraph. It has a lot of wax
and is nothing more than paint thinner with a mean boiling point of
about 250 deg F. Naphtha has a lot of naphthenic hydrocarbons and
stoddard solvent doesn't necessarily contain these. It depends on
the refinery that produces it and the crude slate being refined.

Petroleum base oil does not chromatagraph. It is just a rise in the
baseline with nothing definite to be seen in the way of identifiable
hydrocarbons. Something like white oil comes to mind here. That is
a base oil for pommade or other hair oils.

All I know is that stoddard solvent contains alkanes and WD-40 does
not. It may contain olefins as my analysis wouldn't show those. I
was quite surprised not to find some common lubricating compounds
and/or solvents. The idea that it is WD indicates that it does
contain something with an OH- group on it (alcohol) as this is the
cheapest way to get miscibility with water.
