I'm playing with the Excalibur demo too. I want to do a new sign for our
road, since the cheesy stick-on letters the landlord used are starting
to fall off. So, I did the text in Bobcad 16. Smashed the text per
manual and exported as DXF.
When I imported it into a blank file, I was asked if I wanted it in
model space or paper space. I'm not real familiar with the differences,
but I do recall someone telling me that paper space is where you do the
detail drawings and model space is for modeling the part. I chose model
space and had to zoom all to see my text.
I've also taken this DXF output from Bobcad, imported it into Cadkey to
draw some borders, exported as DXF and still been able to open and see
it in Excalibur.

BTW, I inquired, and Excalibur requires purchase of the CAD module to
run the CAM module. Bummer...
