I'd hate to say that w/o providing a suggestion though: a piece of rubber
sheet with small hole could be stretched over the screw and fixed to the
end of nut, or to structure containing the nut. Purists would figure out
how to make the inside edge of hole tapered to fit the tread profile. A
short radial slit on bottom of hole as mounted would allow the rubber to
bridge the thread crown. Seals for ball screws are already made this way,
but molded.
Also, this is a plain nut and a plain screw ... that brings to mind taps
and dies, both of which have chip reliefs in them. Making the nut with a
hole thru it would surely do the same thing for the sawdust as the relief
holes in a die do for chips. As long as we're on that tack, slitting the
nut like a die would allow it to be closed up some, which would make it
more precise and also improve self-cleaning either at the hole or at a slit.

>Maybe you could do something with little high pressure air nozzles?Usually air just gets the chips deeper inside the mechanisms. Wood sawdust
probably would fly a lot farther than metal. Good machinists for years have
abhored blowing air onto machines for that reason.
