The only other BS mfgr. that comes to mind is Ball Screws & Actuators Corp.,
San Jose, CA. They make a TREMENDOUS line of BScrews from 1/8" dia. to 4"
dia, as I recall, both ground and just-rolled. I do NOT know if they make a
"Bridgeport retrofit kit" like other screw-firms, but they can prolly tell
you who to see.
I would NOT recommend you just go out and buy some screw-stock and nuts, and
try to turn the ends to suit! You will end-up very, very sorry you attempted
that!
Lotsa luck! P.S: My Taiwanese "Bridgeport" [knockoff] cost me $5000,
collets, clamp-set, and vise extra. I priced a screw-kit for it (a "drop-in
and go" thing, they promised!), and it woulda cost me half what the machine
cost! Labor would have tripled the cost, so, it didn't seem "the thing to
do". So, I read the book, and learned how to "tweak" the backlash. I get
by, now. I used ball-screws on a CNC machine I built for an English firm in
'86. Whew! What a lotta bother! So, I resolved to never do dat 'gin! If I
just HADDA go CNC on a mill, I'd buy a NEW BP with that in mind!
