Lee,
I haven't read Freds' response to this yet. But can you name a
software company that DOESN'T "arbitrarily" decide what is and what
isn't "major" or "minor" upgrade?!?
And who doesn't also decide that "it is time" to charge for a new
release, whether major OR minor?
I agree that Freds answer did seem as though the policy is a little
arbitrary, but I think he may just be telling the truth; and I would
defend his right to run his company however it makes sense to him...
I am SURE he has more information to work with in making
these "arbitrary" decisions than the rest of us.
Last point. In software development what the result "looks like" can
have very little to do with the amount of "effort it took". So from
an end-user perspective, that "tiny little change" might have
required a substantial rewrite!
