but how? can you help me with this actually we're running out of funds for
our thesis and the cost of stepper motor here in the philippines is quite
expensive. so when we got an idea that dc motor can be interfaced in such a
way like the stepper we agreed to use is but we don't have any idea on how
to do it. please help!!!

Yes, an appropriately chosen DC motor equipped with a rotary encoder
for position feedback can be used as a servo motor. And there are
servo drives (such as the G320/G340 from Geckodrive, whose designer is
on the list here) which take the same step & direction inputs as
stepper motors. Done right, this can results in much higher
performance for much lower cost than that of the large stepper
motors needed for substantial machine tools.
