When he said 'act as a stepper motor' I interpreted it to mean he
wanted a functional replacement. A dc servomotor will not work
with a stepper driver, but when used with a step & direction input
drive it can replace the stepper motor & driver combo and still
look the same as the stepper motor to the computer.
