Hans,
Again, I'm not using ball screws, but 1/4-16 acme screws.
Ball screws on this machine would be a total waste of money in my
opinion because of the materials involved in the ways. I lube mine
regularly with genuine way lube, and I'm still starting to wear through
the anodize.
Teflon flows under load. Yeah, loads are low, but still, it will move.
Teflon impregnated Acetal (delrin) would be tougher, but you still have
the problem of bonding these materials to the aluminum.
Shamban (sp?) is the maker of Turcite. I inquired once, and they do make
a sheet as thin as .015, but that's enough to destroy alignment between
my thrust plates and screws.
It's been a heck of a good toy to play with and hot rod. Boeing might
not like to hear about this, but there are some of their planes flying
with a part I made on it, for one of their subcontractors. However I've
reached the limits and my next bench mill will use linear bearing ways
and preloaded balls screws.
They can be hard to find, but look around for cartesian coordinate
robots. Better ones will have all the trick hardware.
